AFAIK a spanish guy was the one behind it. ffffound has a huge amount of cool images, but certainly it lacks a lot of features and the invite-only thing is a pain in the ass. I'm still a big fan of Tumblr though, if you want that ffffound.com functionality but on a personal level. Thanks for the extra link as well, I hadn't heard of vi.sualize.us.
